The Pellegrina is the design foundation of  the instruments described on this site.   It has the biggest sound and is one of the most comfortable of the violas described here. It has also received the most extensive international media attention, including coverage in: the New York Times, the Houston Chronicle, the  San Francisco Examiner, the Dutch Hetfinanciele Dagblad, the Viet Nam News and the Brattleboro Reformer; Strings Magazine, Strad Magazine, Chamber Music America, Symphony Magazine, the San Francisco Symphony Bulletin and the Netherlands Philharmonic Encore Magazine; CNN, CBS, the Discovery Channel and Dutch National Television; the Voice of America, National Public Radio and ABC Radio--New York.  Click here for the Pellegrina description page.

Like the Pellegrina, the Riviola was developed to offer significant ergonomic advantages over traditional instruments. But it is much more traditional looking and has a somewhat more alto sound.  Click here for the Riviola description page.

This is a jazz variation of the Riviola with an added violin E string above the A, and an F string below the C.  Click here for the Six-String description page.

Design work began early in the year 2000 for what became the Maximilian Violin. With its radical design change and its petite size and setup it is very easy to play and has proven helpful to players with left shoulder and hand problems.  Click here for the Maximilian description page.

An acoustic five-string viola, the Pellegrina Pomposa is for players who want to have the additional range afforded by a violin E string. J. S. Bach's Sixth Unaccompanied Suite BWV 1011 is only one of scores of works written for this versatile instrument. (It is not recommended for injured players.)
